    Question about Large German Messkit

    Hi Folks:

I recently picked up a large German messkit...which is black...and it is either WWI period or later...but my real question is about a "tab" or a a piece that is affixed to the inside of the messkit...it is located on the right-hand inside of the messkit. What is that for...why? I recall years ago...something about a tab for resting the spoon/fork utensil "spork"...and on the left side is an "indent" on the lip of the messkit.....for the "spork" also?????

    Thanks,
