Unidentified small leather sling, help wanted!

Picked up this very German looking leather sling, but unable to identify it! The Germans tended to design specific carrying slings for each cathegory of equipment; like the flaregun holster sling and the optic carrying sling. Has anyone seen this type of strap in use before? I placed it on a MP40 pouch to give some perspective!

I did see this sling in use on the bakelite binocular case.....
