Very strange to see this short model 1935-1936 canister painted this way. I believe that regulations stated that by the end of the war these would be issued to rear-area units only, of course there must have been exceptions to this rule.

Maybe a rear-area soldier wanted to look cool and painted it up. OIF/OEF has the same thing--folks that don't leave the FOB, but like to wear the cool kit items!

on this picture You can see that can was already worn to bare metal in high points before painted in tan and then camo... there is no dirt or dust deposit on camo layer...

I am sceptic, and I would be more careful with this one
