Definately russian II WW model ( if I rember correct it will M40 mapcase ) and might be used by german soldiers ( but most often were used M41 mpacases ).

Why do you think it may have been used by the WH?

I had one of those same pattern cases that was mfd in occupied Germany for the Soviet Army. It had a German manufacturer's stamp on it and was dated 1946. It was very high quality but, alas, I sold it on e-bay years ago!

Are there any markings on your case that lead you to believe it was WH used?

1b-youre right, this may well have been on a wehrmacht serviceman's person during the war. ;^)

                Gentlemen,

Any more information on that M1941 model? Is this the model without detachable part and with a panel in synthetic rubber-like material?
Recently I found a 'Nachlass' of a WH veteran with a Russian mapcase in it. As it comes out of the ex-DDR, I never can be sure whether this case was added to the 'Nachlass' before or after the war. There were some pictures in it and an Oberschütze star together with a WH map of Poland.
There's IMO no way of knowing for sure if an item like this was WH used or not, except when you find a Landser wearing it in a picture. Pencil and ink writings (names, Feldpostnummer, ranks...) could be a good sign of course, but are easily faked.
I would say that ANY Soviet mapcase, made before 1945 could have been used by the WH (theoretically). If you want to equip a mannequin setup with this item (model 1940), you couldn't go wrong IMO. That's why I want more info on the other (M1941) model: how long was it produced after the war, are there special features to recognize pre-1945 production etc. etc. Who can help out?

                Thanks,

                Lucius

collectmilitaria.com had an item on its site and i would like to show it here, as perhaps it may at least help in a more broader way to answer your question, and that perhaps of others....

I have the same One also used and named by a German Soldier. Those captured Russian Mapcases are often to find here at German Flee Markets. Most of them are German named and the Russian Company Stamps are removed. I was a common Practise to use that kind of captured Material.
