This time I'm going to share with you this holster fo the Short Barreled 27mm Leuchtpistole(Walther Signalpistole Heeres-Modell).In the past two yeras the market has been flooded by very convincing fakes of this piece of WW2 German equipment, but the specimen shown in this photos is a genuine,1942 dated and fuq(Cottbusser Lederwarenwerk Curt Vogel KG,Cottbuss,Wernerstrasse 62)stamped holster.
Genuine presstoff holsters and cases have a peculiar, distinctive smell to them, and any collector who has handled a few will immediately and instinctively bring the piece he's holding in his hands to the nose, looking for that typical scent. This smell cannot be reproduced,no matter how convincing the fake!Another telltale sign, important to ascertain if a holster is genuine would be the prints left by the weapon...these trace are even more difficult to replicate, for it would take quite a long period of casual use to press them into the presstoff! In this case the're left by the trigger-guard and the handgrips:Fakers try to recreate the aged presstoff smell in many ways....so if you see one of these holster sorrounded by cats their tails erect and quivering it's not because Tom and his furry friends are the Robert Zimkas(Howdy Bobby Zee !) of the Feline WW2 German Weapons Collecting Association, but simply because fakers often rub smoked herrings against these holsters...hoping to hide the DISTINCTIVE SMELL OF POST-WAR EAST GERMAN/EUROPEAN PRESSTOFFSKI,AND TO RECREATE THE SLIGHTLY SMOKEY SMELL OF GENUINE PRESSED PAPER IN THE PROCESS!
Enjoy!
