Danish shovel cover?

I was told that this cover was made in Denmark in 1912. Any ideas? Please advice!

Thank You Jorn and Tom...and yes, this one has been found together with early German shovel. Both items has been used and stored together for long time:- print of shovel's rivets is well visible on the cover.



As far I know there is more about captured shovels used in Wehrmacht in Militaria Magazine No. 290... Does nybody can check that this sort of cover can be found there

Yes Tom, your name is mentioned in the acknowledgements of this article.
There is no mention of the danish cover in it, but it makes no doubt that some danish covers were used by the german army. They reissued everything they could, so using a cover that was close to its german counterpart was not a problem at this time IMO. When you see how the french cover looks like....and the germans used it...

The article mentioned is a additional part only...the third part in fact.
Both main articles about the german tools and their carrier can be found in the issue 183 and 185 of the same magazine.

I could not say for sure anything. But as a collector in Denmark, it is my understanding, that the german army in general did not use danish equipment.

Some danish in guard/german police support service. Some danish SS soldiers mixed, with danish equipment earlie on. Just after the war, the danish home guard where formed, and they used some german equipment in the earlie times.
I would say its likely that the shovel cover and shovel where mixed just after the war?

Thank You cemifor! I could not find it, like I said on the beginning of this thread that I’ve been told that cover is Danish…Great that You were able to repeat your opinion but would You post any evidence?

I’m surprised that that both, shovel and cover, looks that well, hell no!!! I put some effort into clening leather and removing paint with extra careful but it was worth every minute

The markings are typical Danish. I got the information from an experienced Danish collector, but I'll see if I can find the evidence you ask for.

Thank You I must add that this early, 1934 dated German shovel shows another interesting feature:- number stamped near the wood handle. I assume that this number was also placed in Soldbuch, same as serial number of the issued bayonet .
