    Dear folks,
I recently found this on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.de/MG-42-Lafette-Weh...item4152c890fe
and wonder if these is a 100% flawless one?
    What's about the WAA markings?
    Thanks
    for your opinion

Saw it already - the only markings that I dont understand is the 1940, on a lafette for MG42...?

Looks like one of the Yugo ones. A Dealer I know bought 150 of them.
Some were original WH ones only with a small Tag covering the german markings.

No doubt it's an original German lafette34 Yugo transformed into an MG42 one. The date '1940' on an MG42 lafette, the 4 little holes where there was a Yugo plate covering the german stamps, the spare bolt box is also for an MG34 bolt, Yugo transport straps, etc.

Yugo is what I thought from the beginning.
But if they remodeled it for the mg53 it woun't fit on the mg42.

I agree it was a original one for the mg34 but was change over to work the 42. Nice markings on it also has the spare bolt box and straps . also looks like original front pads on it , Still a nice find .

My Grandpa had to carry one of these in Russia as a 2. MG Schütze.
He allway complained the weight of it.
(For sure not a Yugo converted)

The straps are not german, and I doubt the canvas is original to the pads (the stiching doesn't look like). If the aluminium base for the MGZ is original it should have a WaA eagle.

                    MG42 Lafette

                    Hi,
It's a converted original MG34 Lafette. First clue - the flat plate on the top of the rear shock-absorber mount at the front of the cradle. Second clue - if you look at the two rear gun-mounting hooks, those on an MG34 Lafette have that extra cut on the inside edge. An MG42 Lafette's hooks are straight-sided on the inside.
I can't remember for sure but isn't S323 in a triangle the early "fsu" stamp - also as pointed out earlier, a 1940 date is too early for a genuine MG42 Lafette, but the elevating mechanism is 1942.
Most Yugo-made tripods don't have a sight mount fitted, one guy at Detling reckoned only 1 in 10 Yugos had an optic and the others ranged in from that one?
It clearly has had the Yugo top plate and range plate removed.
At Beltring a totally Yugo Lafette had had the 4 rivet holes for the top plate welded up and a spurious code and date stamped on. Yours for £1500 - a snip!
                    I hope this helps.

I can say I bought an original MG42 lafette on Ebay (only distance plate missing) about 4 years ago for only 450 euro!!!! I couldn't sell it because nobody wanted it and last year finally went for only 1200

I know, I know, I did make some profit (just to help with my collection)...but the problem is that people didn't want it because they said it was yugo reworked, but it wasn't: no holes around, no parts had that yugo black blueing, date was correct, it had the alu base for the optic, and under some green paint it had original Dunkelgelb in most of it!! I think it was Portuguese contract (because of the distance plate missing).

By the way...did Portugal get MG42 lafetten?
