    Hi,

This 'tube' is for containing a MG barrel. They have to change it after a certain number of shoots (excuse me for the bad word choosen in English) kind of maintenance of the weapon ...

    Regards

PS: here is a sample for two barrels:

The one on the picture is only for one barrel

As it is quite long, I vote for a MG15.barrel, both containers for the MG34 and MG42-barrel are much shorter, the MG42-one is the shortest one.

              Thanks for the reaction.......

Could it be possible to get a detailed scan from the complete picture for some research work. It could be somewhere near my home town............

I will PM my private mail address.

I think it is regular spare barrel holder for MG-34. Compare lenght to ammo can below. It just looks longer in this picture, maybe this soldier is just not "over 180cm supersoldier"

                  Yep, it's regular contener. 63,5cm.

Agree. Average height back those times was 165-170cm. Today it is 180-185 ( and when I look on present teens soon it will be 190-195 cm ). back those times people who were 180cm were really tall.
