    What is this cylinder?

Hi guys, do you know, what is this cylinder? What was it used for? Is it military, is it German and WW2? Made of aluminum, has 3 letters mark - cme. It is 70 cm long /in inches, that must be a little less than 28/. What is it? Thanks!

Yes, maybe? The sling is very much likely to the slings of the spare barrel containers for MG. But the MG containers are different - and this one is made of thin alu tin, looks quite fragile to be carrying iron stuff inside?
