I was going through some of my US Intell data today and ran across this report on Confection rations. I thought it might be of interest to some of the members. This is the first part.Regards Jim

Hi Jim,
What a great piece of research and your example of the packet has got to be rare. I have a cellophane packet with similar wording never been sure it was 100%. What intel manual is that information from? I'd like to get hold of a copy, or at least keep an eye out for a copy.
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Glad you liked the info. I've gathered US Army Intell data from various sources book fairs, museums etc. About 5 years ago I was at the Quartermaster Museum at Ft Lee and managed to make a copy of the US QM Study on German Rations. The US as well as the British Military published a lot of info on German uniforms, tactics, equipment etc. Some interesting comments and pictures like M1944 Low Shoes, Rubber soled Mountain Boots, Leather Wraps issued to GD etc.
I also have the cellophane packet and I think their good.Been around in quantity for years now. I just got the cardboard container this year. I think there are 2 or 3 others floating around here in the states and a few in Germany.
Are you going to the Great Western in Dallas this next weekend? Several of us from San Antonio will be travelling up to see the show. Would like to link up since we appear to share the same collecting interests. Regards Jim

Hi Jim,
It is my intention to visit on the Saturday. I'll be leaving Harker Heights around 5.30 AM to get in as the doors open. Send me a PM with some meet up details.
regards
Mark

US Army Study on German Rations and Subsistence Items
Hi - Great postings!
I have a copy of the German Rations and Subsistence Items study done in 1947 by the US Army Quartermaster's Food and Container Institute, the same one mentioned above. I'm in the process of scanning it and converting it into text. I'm also in the process of getting good scans of the images of the items shown in the study and will make them available in the near future. It's probably the best study of German rations ever done.
Cheers,
Doug Nash

I think your copy may have indirectly come from me.I found the study while visiting the QM museum at Ft Lee. I made a copy for another collector that I met through OSTFRONT. I notice that OSTFRONT also quotes the report. There was another volume to the report but the museum library was "downsized" and I think a lot of good intell info was trashed. Its definately the best reference on German Rations. regards Jim

Ft. Lee Musee
Jim,
Thanks, but Ft. Lee mailed it directly to me after I did a search of Army pubs last year when I did a study on German rations for a book I'm writing about Volksgrenadier divisions. The other missing sections were one on Japanese rations and subsistence items and a third study on British rations. They made me a copy of the Japanese one, but the brit one I didn't bother asking about. I gave a copy of it to the guy at Ostfront too and gave it to him at the Ft. Indiantown Gap event last January. Small world. Also gave out copies to about 10 other German reenactment units, as well as Todd Hogan who is producing reproductions of the Frontkaempfer Paeckchen. A buddy of mine who works at another museum got it on loan and scanned all of the images out of it, so they're a lot better than the xerox copied images. Do you want copies of the photos of Knaeckebrot & Dauerbrot from the Japanese Collector?
Cheers,
Doug Nash

Hi Doug,
I did send you a E Mail at your dot mil address saying I would appreciate the photos you mentioned. My home E Mail is
jpool412@satx.rr.com
Thats a good idea to scan the images in the study so you could actually make them out.
Regards Jim
