Because it holds so much dear memories.

Here are the 1st two pieces of my collection which were given to me by my father who passed away this week. As you can imagine they are very valuable to me, and the will never leave my collection for sure. These 2 pieces started my interest in german Militaria and I got them when I was maybe 7 – 8 years old.

My father picked up the items (and a lot of other stuff) on the streets of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">Groningen</st1:City> when it was liberated. A lot of the stuff was confiscated by the Canadians after the war which also held house to house searches for weapons and stuff right after <st1:City w:st="on">Groningen</st1:City> was liberated.<O</O
My father told me, he also had a lot of weapons (Panzerfausts, Machine Guns, Hand grenades etc etc.) and when he went fishing with his friend, they used hand grenades. I always loved that story.<O</O
My father also participated after the war in the program to find the families of airman which were shot down over <st1:City w:st="on">Holland</st1:City> so that the families could visit the graves of their sons who gave their lives so bravely.
<O</O
We brought my father to his last resting place yesterday, may he rest in peace.<O</O
<O</O
I hope you don’t mind me sharing this story…
