M24 Grenades with Fragmentation Sleeves

I was posting pics of these before I cleaned them in 2 other threads anbd thought I would start a new one now that they are cleaned.

I picked these up at Ciney last weekend. Here you see the "before" look and then what they looked like after I cleaned and restored them. Everything is original even though the grenades came with no wood. I buy original pieces when I see them and fix them up like this. Personally I like dug relics and can put one of these together a lot cheaper than the "mint" ones that were there offered at very high prices.

Holy crap, thats amazing! I thought sides and deffo the paint would come of more or less because of rust and weather damage.. but i was wrong! Nice stuff, i think i might go to see Bastogne one day, seems like a nice place, but who cares about nice i'm there for the history part!

Btw, what type of metal detector do you use, and how powerful does it have to be to find stuff buried in the woods?

Thank you for the comments! The "can" came apart when I separated the segmented sleeve so I lost that one and put it on another I had. The tan or sand painted can came out perfect I think since the paint looks like it was really heavily applied and gloss so it must have protected it better.

These are dug or at least relic condition to including the wood so they required a lot of patience, everything was done by hand - no electrolysis. I also had to carefully re-apply OD paint and use a little heat to set it right. Then everything gets a light coat of linseed oil.

Now I need to find some screw on caps - I do have the porcelain balls. So when I am finished everything will be 100% original except for the string and the little bit of paint I applied.

the question about my detector. I use a Fisher CZ-6a and CZ5. Both are about the same and I like them because they are good on iron as well as non-ferrous metals. It will go pretty deep, I am very happy with it.
