What Kind of Zelt is this?

    Hi WAF members,

I have had this tent half for many years and I still don't know what it is or belongs to? It looks like a political or HJ two man tent? There are no factory markings on it but there are hand written "H.G." on one end. The buttons are the standard "3" hole stamped, zink dish buttons. Please help. All comments welcome.

I hope it's para-military? I have no idea what this is. Anyone else want to take a stab a this?

              Steve,

It's not like any of the post-war French zelts I have seen. These will button up with Wehrmacht zelts and have riveted or two-hole French buttons. Your zelt is very strange. The button configuration is new to me, it comes to a point at the top, it has a strange seam, the grommet configuration is different. It's not like any of the paramilitary zelts I have seen, either. These are just like Wehrmacht zelts but are solid tan, brown or gray. Could it be a civilian thing? Or a post-war copy of the German zelt made by some Eastern European or Middle Eastern country? Even Egypt used German-type zelts after the war (though this is not one).

                Chris,

The thing looks like it could button up to a normal Zelt. The way this thing is configured, it you could put another one togeather with it to form a 2 man dimond tent. The row of buttons down the middle are to hold back a flap. Do you think it is for some kind of equipment?

Are any 2 of the sides the same length? or is it in the shape of a right angle triangle?

                    pzwest,

the tent is sort of in the shape of a right triangle? none of the sides are the same length. What do you think this is?

I was thinking possibly 1/2 of a pair of tent end flaps rather than a zelt tent type

                        pawest,

I had that impression when I first found it, that it may have been an end flap. So it may be just one small piece of a larger tent? Do you know where I can find any pictures of the large, German command tents?
