Some toys for the military Surgeon

Hi guys, got something really great, this thing is rreeeeeely amazing! I know such things are not very popular /the things for killing people are much more popular /, but I want to share it as something not oftenly seen and hope it will be intersting for some of you, like Monsieur Jan?

The style of the box and texts, I think it is not newer than WW1, may be even older! First, a box that is itself a piece of art

                      Great piece Theo! Congratulations !

As you already mentionned, probably WWI vintage or a bit younger (Reichswehr?). Offcourse, it could have still be used by german or other Axis services during WWII but this is just a wild guess from my side.

The WH (re-)introduced the same type of surgeon-box, also known as the 'Hauptbesteck 39". These came in specific military style boxes and trays. Maybe yours was an example intended for the civilian market? There are several pieces that were identical to their military counterpart, but used by civilians. They were kept in another type of storage-box, different label, more specialized,etc...So it could be well that you have a civilian variant.

Anyway, The 'Hauptbesteck 39' was the middle version of 3 boxes with basic surgeon-equipement. The 'Truppenbesteck 35', The 'Hauptbesteck 39' and the largest being the 'Sammelbesteck 39'.

Nevertheless, a killer piece and would look great on display!

Thanks for sharing it with us

                      Cheers

                      Jan

Thanks Jan! The army is the source for this one, came to me via a local veterinarian, who got it a while ago but never actually used it /but uses DDR oxygen bottles he got from the same source!/. On one place the box is marked 1902 - could this be the year?

Maybe some colleagues from the Imperial section can help you out with this wonderfull piece?

Once again, congratulations and I'm happy it was saved by you my friend

On the left you see a WH issue 'Hauptbesteck 1939' box with (partial visible) contents out of my collection.

                            Great things Jan!

As for the date /or some sort of number/, it is situated over the hole for the key on the lid.

                              Hauptbesteck (neuer Art)

the "Besteckkasten" Theodor presented is in fact a military used model.

It was used definitly in WW 1 and maybe during the time of the Weimarer Republik. Although Jetter&Scheerer doesn't sell it after 1920 anymore.

"neuer Art" means, as far as I know, there were some more versions of operation-equipment in the years before in al lot of different boxes. and those boxes were sorted together to the new Hauptbesteck (neuer Art)

In fact this is a really nice item. Maybe you can post a picture of the left or right side of the box. There should be the marking "HB and a number" Is there anywhere a marking "H.S.D" on the box? Where exactly is 1902 marked? this could be the year but don't have to be.
