    Oxygenmask..what about the hose ?

    Hi,
A friend of mine traded a very nice O2 Auermask lately.
Although the mask looks fine to me I've concerns about the hose..
It looks different of all hoses I've ever seen...
The hose isn't smooth as you can see...
I've seen several of these masks lately and it seems to me that some had some problems too..

There was one on a German site that has the correct hose IMO..
Then I saw one on the site of Regimentals that has a English hose IMO.
Then I saw one in the same condition that had a hose that was dried and damaged....

It seems to me that most of these masks had damaged hoses for some reason...
I don't like the hose of my friends mask,it looks like the hose was bad and some new rubber coating was added that gives it the rough look...my opinion...or I'm totaly wrong...that why I ask this..

    First my friends mask...

    Jos.

    Opinions please...

            Mask on Regimentals website....

The hose goes too deep in the mask...
On the other end you can see that the bakelite part that goes in the hose is visible through the rubber, this endpart of the hose is just too long to fit well over the bakelite part of the clamp..

I'm pretty sure this is a English hose...so the original one was damaged too..IMO..

Although the price is still 1875 Euro....

I too, have been looking at these masks Jos and i agree with you.I think the air hose is to thin, if you compare these to war time pictures, thats why i backed away and did not buy one. regards, Paul

The mask on top also has a faint big number in the leather face flap...
I personaly don't know what they mean other than a serie number..!?
I've seen it on mask on a picture though,so it's not postwar added.

                      Hi Jos,
the dealer from which you got the last pic is very, very dangerous.
                      Only **** on his homepage.
I would not use his pics as example...
                      Cheers
                      Teka

                        I know teka,
But I've to use it to have examples for this case...
The masks are scarce and not that much collectors have them to compare..
It's hard to judge these masks, you've to see a couple of them first..
I personaly have a feeling these Auer masks were found in very good condition but with damaged hoses, that's the reason I've started this thread..
I hope more people know something about them..!

                        Jos.

I might have some info, on the Auer masks. I went to the war&peace show, in the uk last weekend and there were two of the auer masks model 10-67. one was in a poor state only half the hose. They were on uk dealers tables. A few months ago, an aviation museum in the south of England sold off its stuff. It did have alot of luftwaffe and Raf equipment, most of it being in very bad condition. In the past 15 years, i have only seen one of these masks ,come up for sale,in the uk. Hope this might help. Paul.

                            Hi Paul,
                            So another damaged hose.....
The other mask..,did it has a black or a green hose ?
It seems that most of the few I know are in the UK..

I'm just puzzling a bit...would like to know the source and if some are really "re-hosed" so to speak..

                            Jos.

Hi,Jos sorry, to take so long to get back, the hoses were black. they were very thin as well, and no clip at the end. The thing that gets me,is the fact that the face mask is so new looking?. Could some one be re-moulding these.Profit would be nice for the faker. The hose would be harder to mould so they just add an RAF one.The price of one of these was 1,200 stg English pounds,I think the dealer was in the sun too much that day and it fried his brain . Regards Paul.
