Hi Folks,
about a year ago I got this German Gas Mask cannister off ebay for use as a desk tidy. The description at the time was that it was a Kreigsmarine gas mask cannister painted in dark grey and adapted for use on a submarine, to explain the lack of carrying straps and the filed down attachments.
However, I don't believe this is Kreigsmarine at all, I think it was post war painted and I believe that somebody maybe added the handle at the top during the war or shortly afterwards to use it as something else as it looks very old. On the inside you can still see the Fieldgrau paint in the lid, and it did have a 1942 ink stamp on it, however I stupidly erased this by mistake as I was wiping dust off it with a wet cloth with a little cleaner on it.
What do you guys think?
sorry for the bad photgraphy...
