I'm not a canteen guy but I came across one at an antique store and I thought this has to be a fake. It was aluminum with a leather cover, and it had no marks but a pair of small crude brass SS runes in the middle of the cover. I wanted to know if my guess on it being a fake was a good one, and were these maker marked.

Does not sound original from the description, normally ss marked water bottles are SS and RZM marked with contract code and date around the neck of the bottle and on top of the cap, they have the same covers as the normal water bottles for those with cups and these are sometimes also stamped on the inside where the pres-studs are, the ones without cups normally do not have the felt covers stamped, I have NEVER seen one with a Leather cover
