    Aircraft armament survey?

    Hi,
As it appears we have a few aircraft guys on the forum ,and no spercific section i'll put the Question here.

What fighter aircraft had the most lethal fire power for a standard 3 second burst or so in standard armament configeration? pound for pound distructive force.Allied or Axis.
no additional weapons allowed in survey. So the contender's will more than likly be twin engined.

I don't have the knowledge either..., planes are far too expensive to have in our collections....

But I guess Rudel's "tankbuster" Stuka had some lethal firepower IMO.
A lot of tanks were pierced by his little grenades...

          Hi,
I am not that familiar with the P 61 but in common with all night figters the armament had to be heavy.
On the British side the contender goes to the Bristol Beaufighter 4x 20mm hispano cannons and 6x 0.303 machine guns.
The Germans had a number of heavy weight players the heaviest standard one is the Heinkel 219 A-7/R1 which carried a forward firing armament of 2x 30 mm MK108,2x 30mm MK103 and 2x 20mm MG151 cannons as well as 2x 30mm MK 108's firring upwards[ Schrage Musik ].
A Messerschmitt 410 flown by Lieutenant Rudi Dassow had 8x 20mm MG 151's firring forward.
Which of these offers the heavies firepower combination i am not sure but it must be the HE 219 IMO.

            Hi Merdock,

I'd have to say it was the He219A-7/R1- given the extreme destructiveness of the 3cm shells. One was enough to separate the tail or wing of a fighter and as few as 4 could remove a B17s wing. The concentration of weapons is also a factor- 4 3cm and 2 2cm cannon in such a small area is pretty powerful.
