    ID needed on this container

Hi Guys, a friend of mine bought this container at the weekend for £25. Any ideas as to the use?
He has resprayed the outer as it had been postwar repainted and very little original finish was left (I don't really approve, but he wants to hang it from his Sdkfz 251)
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers, Ade.

Internal view. There is a screw lid compartment. Is the other one used for an instruction book/manual?

          Hi Adrian,

I think you might be right on the instruction book, might be mainenance-papers or anything else.

Could you give us some dimensions ? Also between the two hooks (so we can determine if it fits to a Tragegestell der Gebirgsjäger).

Also, does this item have any German specifict markings ? Why is it considered to be German 2nd WW ?

          MvG,
          Bart

Hi Bart, I will try and get the measurements for you. I should have put these up! I would guess it is about 25 inches long and about 12 inches high. I could find no markings on it at all. The reason I assume it is German is the construction method and the original paint to the interior, which is a dark field grey, over a tan primer. (I have this on an early 1936 pattern Jerrican)

On possible theory put forward by the seller was that it was a can that could be attatched to a pack horse? This seems plausable, as the two rings might fit to a pack saddle and allow the can to be opened while still on the animal? I have no idea if this is correct?
            Cheers, Ade.
