    Kochgeschirr?

I would like to know what you think about this kochgeschirr. I think it´s an original but has obviously been repainted in black. It has also been stamped "IMPORT" at the top. It´s marked "HRE 40".

      Hello
Appears to be mint inside , some early mess kits were painted black ( not always)
So , what makes you think the paint is not original ? regarding the Import stamping , kind of strange for a 1940 dated .
      Regards

Hi, if you look att this topic: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...light=messkits you will see that most early mess kits where painted in feldgrau and very few in black.

Pherhaps Im wrong about the painting but it looks to good and it makes me suspicious about it (ok, it can come from a storage). The mess kit itself are in the best condition I have ever seen, not even the smallest dent and 99,99% of the paint is intact.

If I KNEW the paint was original I would be pleased BUT it still has the marking "IMPORT" on the top and I really want to knew why it has been put there. Until I get any answers about this I will look very sceptical on it.

Looks nice to me... As for the word IMPORT - is it stamped in the metal, or is it inkstamp? If it is stamped in the metal, is it under the paint? I think, maybe postwar some unissued tins were imported to some other country from Germany, for civillian sale /for hunters, fishermen, etc/?
