I am post this snow camo mask for a friend of mine. He claims it to be original. He bought the outer pull over smock and pants and an heer white painted helmet. The mask doesn't glow a and the thread passes the burn test. I have my opinions on this, but I said I would post it. Thanks Paul

Just a comment on what these masks were for.
I don't believe their intention was that of camouflage rather protection. Very similar masks, albeit in modern materials, are issued today in extreme cold weather environments. Today they are almost exclusively used when carrying out activities where you get wind in your face or when there's high wind. That could be travelling in an exposed vehicle (motorcycle for example) or carrying out guard duty when it's windy. Once the air temp gets below -10 or more then windchill becomes a major problem on exposed skin. Without a mask like this you'd end up with frostbite on your nose and cheeks very quickly indeed.
The modern British or nato masks may well be based on this German design. Quite a lot of kit and techniques have their origins in the war.
Just an observation from a former military ski instructor and extreme cold weather warfare instructor.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
