Here are some images of a German Kompass. The brown leather case has a belt loop on the reverse side. The compass measures 3 1/4 inches X 3 15/16 inches and is made of brass. It appears to be high quality workmanship. I have searched this forum for another like it but have not seen one. Is this an early war compass? Is it an artillery compass? Compass and leather case are in excellent condition. What would be the value for estand? Thank you in advance for any help............Harry C **The first view shows the compass with the protective brass cap over the glass lens.

High Quality Instrument - Early War?

Obviously real, no doubt about! SCHRITTMASSTABE: Schritt = step (as in walking). Masstabe = scale (of measurement).
I very much doubt that it is a artillery compass. The sight is not good enough, and the instrument is divided for 360 degrees (normal compass) while a artillery compass would be divided for H/6400 mills.
But then again it looks too complicated to an ordinary compass, so it must have fullfilled a special role.....
