    K98 ammo pouches

    Hello everyone,
My question is regading K98 leather ammo pouches. I have a set that has all natural aluminum hardware. I am considering the purchase of another set. The set I am looking a has all blackened hardware. Was the blackening done post war before being reissued, or was it done during the TR period? Posted is a set that I am looking at. If its post war paint, how hard is it to remove? So it can be displayed with other period correct gear. I have this posted in the firearms section as well. Thanks,

      Hello,
Considering that these pouches are simplified ones, i guess hardware is made of steel under the black paint. German's paint was light gray/dark gray, or no paint was applied. Weren't the russians that blackened everything ?

There exists also black-paint on german WWII items. Compare with those pouches just found stored in germany. Partial blackened metall-parts.

i have a pair with the fitting painted grey then over painted black dated 41 actually the black is more like a rust preventive material like a tar ? with a little work it comes off fairly easy and i think they came out of storage from russia .
                i hope this helps.
                regards,
