Opions sort on this hand baggage bag is it WW11,DDR or some other army? I bought it some time ago and have always had some doubt as to its provinance. Would just like to say what a fantastic forum this is,where we can show and see each other's kit and sort out all those nasty fakes,I've been surfing the site for a couple of hours now here at work and I'm off for a cup of tea now and will return later! Thank god those are still so cheap, that - to date - no fakes are around.

Those bags are german WWII, and were only used there by them, so no other army had simular ones.

Here is the reproduction bag, shown on the left with original bags on the right. The reproduction is made for reenactment and not to deceive collectors. The straps and buckles are from Bundeswehr Gamaschen.

Sorry about the dark pictures... not much daylight at this time of year. There is a lot of variation in how original bags were made. The reproduction lacks the leather edging found on most originals.

The inside shows that the stitching for the leather handle is reinforced with webbing material. The originals I have are reinforced with leather.

The inside of the stamp has a totally out-of-place Waffenamt stamp! This may be seen as a bonus by some reenactors who insist that everything should be marked, I don't know... I highly doubt that any originals ever had these markings.
