    Canteen I.D.

    Hi Folks,
New member here. I would like some assistance in proper identification of a Wehrmacht canteen I picked up in Germany back in 89. Sorry, I do not have a pic to post. I got it in a lot of surplus items that were advertised as postwar.
This canteen is in unissued condition. On the aluminum neck it is marked C&CW43. The cover is thick wool (not the thin I have seen on many) and is marked W43 in purple on the insice of the flap. The four snap buttons are black painted without the 4 'star" type insignia I have seen on most wartime canteens. The leather straps sewn on the front and rear of the body are black leather, however the mainstrap is the tropical strap with a black leather end piece that fits over the aluminu, "tit" the "tit" end is marked 62 on underside. The metal tip on the other end that fits through the buckel is marked LUX. The clip is green painted and marked 'Patent Ritter" in a circle. The cup is late war type black bakelite(small type) with no markings. This entire set seems to be a complete set unissued, and except for a couple dings in the metal body, seems to have been in storage since manufacture.
So what is the consensus based on description? Was I lucky enough to get an excellent wartime issue, or is this possibly a postwar parts canteen?
I realise without pictures no one can give a definate say,
    `Thanks,
    Johnnie

    Hello Johnnie

Based on your detailed description I would say it is a good one. The webbing LUX-marked mainstrap is just fine. Also the other markings are typically war-time. I'm not sure about your unmarked bakelite cup ( could be replaced but wartime, could be post-war...)

Please check out this link to a thread covering most sorts canteens...

    Hopes this helps so far

      Hi Jan,
Thank you for the input. I did check out the thread you mentioned. I'm assuming, from what I have learned so far, that the bakelite black cup was often made wartime unmarked, as well as postwar, and almost impossible to tell the difference.
I will post a pic when able,
      Thanks again,
      Johnnie
