    Solving LW / other abbreviations!

    Hi

During my collection of leather equipments mostly pouches and Map cases. I often find markings stamped in the leather who I know are various Regimental / Division and allsorts of information’s.
I also know about places like (Lexicon der Wehrmacht) Feldgrau and others, but still I am running into trouble trying to decipher all those markings, even I write and read German.
So “Great knowledge Forum” can you advice me some books literature and/or Internet pages, where my knowledge can be enlightened disregarding.

    A question?
Inside a LW Map Case a punched abbreviations Fl. Gr. Ki. Stamped next to the usual L.B.A. (S) who I know what wean.

I’ll love to know what that is supposed to mean.

    Regards

    Kim

      Kim,

Fl.Gr. for Luftwaffe unites usually means Flieger Gruppe....Ki. is not an abbreviation that I have come across before, however if we are talking about Flieger Gruppe it could stand for Kirkenes in Norway? I believe there was a Fl.Gr. named here?

      L.B.A. (S) I am do not know.

        Hi Ian,

I think Kim knows what L.B.A. stands for. I'm certain the S is for Stuttgart, B is Berlin, etc..

        regards,
        John

          Fl.Kg.Ki.

          Hi

Thanks for the replies up to now and more suggestions to the Ki. Abbreviations are welcome; as information the Map case is made in 1937 but the entrance of the punching do not necessary have to be contemporary with the maker Year?

Kirkeness sounds nice to me a very remote Norwegian town very close to Russia but I doubt? What about Kiel is any formations starting with Ki. Any Flugzeuge starting with Ki I really don’t know.
Just to be sure I double-check all the words it’s correct.

I think we have been into the discussions L.B.A. (S) and (B) before, from my ammo. Pouch study a stamping like (S) has not been found here before at least not by me but letters like B, E, K and others who represent regional centre (Amts) they is often are found like B 37 = Berlin 1937.
On the Map case’s the punching look when LW always like L.B.A. (S) or (B) and sometime, mostly no Year. Interesting!! No explanation

          Regards

            Correction

            Hi
I am most sorry! Some of the information I wrote in my last tread was incorrect! I do have pouches stamped inside with L.B.A (S) and I also have a pouch with an additional B.
Look here the joker is the letter B it came together with letter S. Like L.B.A (S) B and a most interesting point here the S is always inside parentheses (S) and the B don’t ever have the parentheses.
That’s why I don’t believe the Stuttgart theory it’s more likely something like (S)ammlenstelle ??

Well don’t know but some explanation is waiting for us to solve in this minor field of collecting,

            Regards

            Kim

              Hi Kim,

You have not changed my thinking yet, but I am open to more information and eager to see documentation.

              Best,
              John

                  Hallo John

Thanks for the reply and I don’t wanna chance or convince you or anybody here about who things work! We / I only want to draw attentions to some details that maybe lead us to a better understanding of the equipment and the idée’s laying behind it.

The pictures you display her are exactly what I am meaning the S with the parentheses and the B without, just nice to se it works.

I am maybe been misunderstood here?? What documentations are you looking for Please.

                  Regards
                  Kim
