Just got this dagger in and thought I'd share this with you.

This is a typical private purchase item. The Gebirgsjäger that were stationed in Lappland frequently bought these local made knifes. Although not rare, they are kind of hard to find.

I must have a picture somewhere that shows a Gebirgsjäger wearing this kind of knife hanging from his belt, but ... can't find it any more.

The knife itself. It has seen some real use, may be wood-carving ?

The back-side of the sheathe. The original owner carved his name in Ogefr. .....(something), unfortunately, hard to deceipher ...

As a personal note, the original owner attached the Petsamo-Rovaniemi commerative badge to the lower part of this piece.

Interesting topic!

I want to share two pictures of a knife that I have for several years know, found it at a fleamarket once, I think that this is a postwar knife. I never new exactly what it was...maybe you can help me out here

As you can see it has been repainted once in red, the scabbard and handle are both in wood. The blade is marked ' mad in Sweden' and on the other side there is a logo of the maker...'MORA'
The scabbard has wierd engraved symbols all over it

Hi Jan,

It definitley is an old and used knife. I haven't the faintest idea on the age or its use by civilian/military. Could well be boy-scouts or another oganisation. As it is marked Sweden it could be some of our Swedish members might recognize this.

Hi Jan !

The knife you have pictured here is a standard commerical wood "picking" knife in both Norway and Sweden, used by private people to carw in wood and as a tool in their work. It was widely used back in the 50-60`s. Most likely during the 40`s too but I doubt that this one is from that period since its red painted sheet. Im sure that some other Scandinavian collector can contribute with more info

I have to say the same....

That´s a standard swedish"Mora-knife".
Every Swedish constript gets one during his first duty.
Instead of a wodden handle it´s made of plastic.

That's a nice Finnish knife with a great Gebirgsjäger connection there.
In scandinavia just about everyone who goes 'på tur' (walking,camping etc.) uses a knife like that or Jan's. Not surprising really the Germans picked up the habits of their Finnish comrades, i carry a knife similar to Jan's myself when out camping.

Yep, Jan there has a quite common Mora knife, solver of the family problems. And about Bart's knife... I do not know the maker but for example J.Marttiini and Iisakki Järvenpää are known makers here in Finland.
