    It looks like a box to carry the mg 34 basket drums to me its looks like the correct size,neat looking box anyway good luck BillV

      I am affriad this box has not much to do with MG drums ... propably some medical use box - or some sewing kit.. etc...

          Thanks all, I agree it is not likely for MG drums, but it is marked AVG42, so likely had a military use. Just can't figure this out!

            Looks more civilian than military based on the latch and handle.

            Just my opinion.

              Thanks Gentlemen. If it is civilian, any other thoughts what it could be? And I am unsure why if it is civilian that it has a military ordnance code stamped into the lid and is green. A mystery to me.

                Not 100% sure, but I have heard that these were for carrying foodstuffs.

                    here is a metal tin for the mg34 tool kit I believe with the same type of latch and handle, there is a makers stamp and waffenampt stamp also on the side
