Lately acquaintance of mine found canteen's cup, which colour was quite ugly. I haven't seen that kind of cup before, has its colour changed during 60 years or is the colour really true?

I have seen those caps in same colour in mint condition, so IMO this colour is as produced back then, and not faded. -
so far, i've seen these cups produced in black, orange and this very light green.
100% genuine and already seen on period pics...nice find...

They were made in Orange, Black, light Green, light Brown, dark Brown, but the coooooollest is this one, postet by a Member in our German Forum

Thanks for sharing information, the reason why I'm admired is that the germans produced items profoundly but this colour do not camouflage at all, vice versa it's good mark for sniper.Comment

weird colour of canteen's cup.
Hello,
Gryynwald's canteen is bakelite without sufficient pigment. You can see occasional flecks of black which is the pigment added separately during the process to form a solid color. The cups were probably pumped out so fast on the assembly line, that the pigment drum wasn't changed fast enough and the coloring agent slowly ran out - thus producing a steady lightening in color in the finished examples.
The latter photo may well be just after the pigment drum was replaced and thus a steady darkening in the cups' colors.
Pigment can be almost any color and the Germans probably used whatever was available.
Fiberglass manufacturing is the same way and a family member has a factory which makes that kind of stuff.
