There was a bloke on ebay who sold about 5 bits of ww1 German aeroplane skin framed like this with little notes like "donated to the war effort on behalf of Captain Barty Foreskinion " or "shot down over Albert by Lt Tarquin Smythe-Smytheson 14 Aug 1915 " .So perhaps this is a Tractor part ? Rob.

Could be Rob, I can't match it up with anything so far The paint work is pretty convincing though..

On the backside of the piece, is that what looks like interior paint remnants? I thought the Germans didn't paint much of the interiors, just left them natural metal.

As I suspected there are nutplate holes, but they don't seem that they were being used for anything. I can't think of a reason why you would be attaching something on the outside (painted side), over top of the swastika. No evidence of anything being attached.

I agree the paint looks convincing, but like you I can't get it to match up with anything. That one partial cutout will make it or break it.

For what it's worth, here are two pics of a FW190 pannel that I own, note how the inside has been made. It's not flat like the piece shown but has a "3D" appearence on the surface. Probably this results in a better stability.

I have to admit this bit stumped me. I've looked at photos of every smallish aircraft I think it could come from, then looked to see if it could be from a British airplane like a Tempest or Typhoon, which had been painted for a war movie, and even looked at at T-6 like was used in "Where Eagles Dare", then at every postwar trainer I could think of too.
I don't know anything about nut-plates, but what few shreds I've seen of German aircaft metal seems to have a neat light bluish green or greenish blue primer inside....if it was primed.
It sure looks convincing. However I can imagine it coming off the underside of a piece of a Vampire wing filet or some other crushed remnant of some postwar airplane.

I don't know what it came from....I just know what it didn't come from......

The 3D look (dimples) is from a second piece of metal attached to the back of a removable panel to give it rigidity. It basically replaces frames, stringers, ribs, etc..
It wouldn't be used on any part of the main airframe, just on some of the removable panels.

May I suggest that you post the picture on this forum, there are alot of skilled people there that possible could identify the part. I am not saying people here aren't skilled but that forum is more along the line of a/c identification and is visited by many experts.
