German Petrol Can, whats it for ?

Hi, bought this can on ebay at the weekend, stamped Jg 1942 by the handle, does anybody know what it might used for, it's the size of the wartime British 2 gallon can.
    Thanks Gary.

      Hi

I know this is an old thread, but no one ever answered your question

      Kraftstoff is German for fuel.

      Feuergefährlich is German for flammable

Someone correct me if I am wrong but this makes it a generic tin for diesel, petrol, heating oil even.

As it is of a military application it would be most likely used for petrol, Benzine

Hope this is of some help, it is a nice looking can you have there.

This looks like a petrol can for the field generator set?

Haven't a clue, like is said i dug mine up, literally, so it only cost my a little sweat. Most of the paintwork is intact too, identical to the one pictured.

Hi, from memory I paid £7 pounds for it on ebay (it's not for sale though).
                      Thanks for the replies.
                      Regards
                      Gary

Not to get too far off topic, but I'd imagine you have to be careful where and what you are digging up? Are there many mines and unexploded ordinances in the ground there?
