The M 24 has been blacked out and replaced with 43 (for M 43) and the other side reads, as yours does, fuer Tropen. I was amazed when I found this item for......DM30! only a few years ago!
Very nice and indeed hard to obtain in such a condition!! any possibility to see some pictures of the interieur?
I sold the same one, but in feldgrau, a few months ago.
Here's a small carrying-container for mortars. I found it recently on a fleamarket. It seems that it has been repainted in black once, but the tan paint is still visible on soms spots...
Here is my Nebel grenade case, its not tropical, but anyway its intering, please note the shield and the year 1939 which is stamped into the steel,i must admit that I have never seen a marking like this before.

hello !!
Jørn - have you identyfied manufacturer of that box ?? Because I have the same shield on my case (not from smoke - "regular" grenades) with 1940 date above the shield..
...and since it was used for Civilian use I used it as my carryon case from Zürich to New York a few years ago (no, I was not wearing the facemask as I checked in) it went well with the Lw. Rücksack I brought along.
