    Thanks for posting extra pictures. The damages actualy looked like a stamp in the first picture.
    These boots are German and period ,this is why : the "erzast" cloth covered leather was only used by the German pre 1945 ,after the war ,they used leather. and you find that type of fake leather mainly in privatly purchased boots (shoe maker had a hard time getting leather ,has everything was given to the army first).
    Shame about the holes in the bottoms ,you might be able to "restore " it .
