I am not sure if I understood you.
I was refering to metal cup painted green ( red or green inside),the earliest I have seen are dated 1943 , now ,if someone does have a 42 dated ,please post pictures.

when i said "but this is not because you've never seen it that it doesn't exist", i was talking about steel painted green cups dated 1942. And we know now it does exist (i mean i knew it already but don't own one).

Nice canteen. I never understand all these "rules" we collectors create. How do we know for sure when steel cups first came out and when aluminum ones ceased? By observing original examples. Here is a 1942 dated steel tropical cup. The vet had this until last year. All matching and dated 1942.

Very nice example, Willi! Can you tell me what distinquishes this as "tropical"? The web straps; the color of the cup; the date; or a combination of the above?

Well guess what ,I have one too !!! I just found the cup at the bottom of my boxes.
