Field gear references

Been overseas about three years now, and a little out of touch. I was collecting primarily small arms and field gear before I left, and there are a lot of good small arms references, but the only field gear references I had was Cyrus Lee's Soldat series. A good primer, but not in depth enough.
Has anyone published a comprehensive field gear reference that also addresses the large number of reproductions/fakes?

I can only direct you to "Militaria Magazine" and the publication by J-P Borg and Laurent H , they created a full serie ,for the past few years ,concerning all the equipment worn by the German soldier ,during WW2 ,amazing work and great research by them. They should publish their work in a book .
They are the best source to date. Original pictures too ,are a good source.
Angolia book is great too ,but not in color !!!.

The work has been done on US Army gear and other armies. I am pretty sure ( I hope anyway) that someone ,somewhere ,is working on it

FWIW, Vol.3 of Uniforms and Traditions of the German Army goes everywhere with me when i'm out in the field. It's a long way from being comprehensive but it's useful for my purposes.

Thanks for the info guys. A really comprehensive reference is needed. Somebody eventually will do a book called "Exploring the Field Gear of the Wehrmacht".
Then watch the prices rise.LOL.

i agree with you about Militaria Mag's articles; those two guys are very strong, the only reason to buy the magazine! Another great author of the same magazine is Eric Lefevre who wrote many articles in the past (where is he now?) togheter at his book named 'La Wehrmacht' where you can find only the truth about german militaria of WW2!!!

I don't know ,where ,or what happened to him ,I do have the " la werhrmacht" book ,which is filled with real informations ,however ,I believe that ,they should reprint it and in color.

All is right for Eric Lefevre, unfortunatly I think that his interest is far from our ... He is always working on the subject but mainly on LVF and Milice ..

His book and those from Schlicht and Angolia are really GREAT, with these publication you can have an excellent start but I think that the best way to collect is to work..work ..work...
Any book or Forum can be better than see touch and smell..
Nothing can be better than spend hours and hours on period photos ..
And to listen and talk with some other collector as we do it here ...

There are out of print ,I am afraid ,that book is now 20 years old. However ,I believe ,you can still find them ,from time to time ,in such place like ebay ( France). You could also try the site of " Histoire et collections " shop ,in Paris ,they have absolutely ,every single book published about militaria ,and I mean everything ! if you ever go to Paris ,let us know , the library is easy to find.
I hope that you will find one ,it is a great reference to have.
