    SS Telephone; is this genuine?

    Hello,

I hope I have the right forum. This telephone sure looks genuine and the paint on top looks to be the same as the painted runes on the side. Can anyone tell me what the painted words on top translate to? Any idea as to whether the SS painted their runes on telephones? The guy wants $450 and that sounds high to me.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

looks like a nice phone.. but these SS m,arkings are fishy....

if I would find myself a phone like that straight from an attic - ok I could keep it as a SS phone..
but I would never buy it...

The phone is real but not worth $450. I believe the markings are fake and cheesy. As Michael said, maybe it is possible, but it is much more likely that this is a postwar embellishment that makes no sense and without some kind of genuine provenance I would value this at around $200, less with the cheesy markings... just my opinion.

Looks like the word is Geheime, meaning Secret. I could believe the word Geheime being painted on a phone if it was for classified information - if they had secure telephones in those days, but not the SS. This is the kind of thing that gets fabricated all the time. Relate something, anything, to the SS or some other elite formation, and the price doubles. I see a lot of this stuff and just keep walking...

as per everyone else, it's a $80-$100 HQ phone, they linked into a regular field phone via a cord and the socket of the side of the field phone.. as Bob said... Keep walking
