    AK39 wrist compass question

Regarding the AK39 wrist compass: I believe there are 2 styles of these---a bakelite version and the other with the white (metal?) reverse.

Does anyone know which one was the EARLIER version issued and used, and when exactly that was?

The black one was the earlier one (marked Kadlec). Both were of black plastic construction but had different color backgrounds. They went to the white backing as it was easier to see.

Gene or anyone elso for that matter, do you know when (year) the 'white' version first appeared? Also which is easier to obtain on the collectors' market? Is there a difference in the price one would expect to pay for each one?
        Thank-you.

I believe the white ones appeared in 1941. As for which is easier to find, I would think the white one as there were more made. Prices fluctuate but I believe @$150 is a fair price for one, more with an extension strap.

Thank-you for your help Gene. I have not been able to find this information anywhere. In Prodger, or any of the other reference books. Thanks again!

Sadolch - SUPER nice 2nd mod you have there! Minty Fresh to say the least - as I mentioned in another post - I am thinking about picking on up so I have both versions.

                    Cheers
