can any one tell me how to tell wartime phield fones from post war ones? as i have just managed to buy 4 on ebay.de for less than £10 each and was wondering how to tell if they are wartime i know the insides are WaA stamped but what about the cases?
Also how do they work? as i want to wire them up and use them

my fieldphones are fully marked with WaA stamps and date of manufactory, youll need a wire to connect the 2, then they both need batteries, when you yank the handle, which you put into the side it will ring on teh second phone.

i cant find any stamps other than the manufacturer, Siemens Halske (only Siemens nowadays..)

This particular telephone was used during the Norway campaign and recovered in Norway a few years ago, according to the previous owner.

Thats an interesting one, I have only seen the bakelite case type so far

yes very intersting, mine are also bakelite, and the phone's look very differnt from what ive seen before. as far as i know the phones should be marked, and the interior of the microphones should be marked aswell.

Mr. Triatic, your phone is the WWI German fieldphone pattern, but maybe produced later.

Oh, also, my field phone is mismatching on certain pieces (most likely repaired from battle wear/damage), but there are dates such as "38" and "44" on it. They should stand out once you get them, unless the ones you got are not period, but maybe East German.

Is the phonetic alphabet plate wording not different on postwar jobs? I know they were reissued to NVA troops postwar. Waffenampt stamps were obviously not removed on re-issues.

i finally recived 3 of them and have got them working yey one is all WaA stamped including thr box and generator but the other has been de-nazfied by scratching the eagle off but is dated 1945 which is excellent my main area of collecting items dated 1945 but this one si in slightly worse condition but i can still hear my little brother speeking from a room down the hall on it
also i think they came with origional wartime? battries they are made by columbus and stamped made in germany so not post war?

It's worth noting that there's also a lot of wartime German ones, post-war used by the Norwegians floating around. They mostly have the phonetic plate replaced with a Norwegian one.


I got one phone from my mother-in-law (the small community she lived in all used them as a mini telephone network before they got proper phones in back in the 40s\50s). It still had a 1943 dated and WaA stamped Pertrix battery in it.

This is the one on mine, a German wartime, not Norwegian reissue.
