    Shoulder Board for Review

    Hi to all,

Is this an original SS shoulder board? Front and back are black not dark green. Thanking you all in advance and hoping to hear from some of you very soon.

Based on these pictures, it looks like an original tailor made WSS Srurmscharffuhrer shoulder strap with officer candidate loops to me. It's just missing the tongue. Theoretically it could be from the Army's Fuhrer - begleit unit, but that would be incredibly more rare. And you could never prove it.

    Nice strap.

I like it also, but for such a well made strap, I wonder why just a slit button hole and not a key hole.

I can assume this shoulder board does refer to Army 's Fuhrer - begleit.
The Shoulder Board has a side edging made from a canvas that was hardly applied on the shoulder boards for waffen-ss.
In addition, the back side of the shoulder board is black, which is more typical of Heer panzer shoulders boards. IMO

                Hi Yury,

Would a Heer Panzer shoulder board have a pink piping?

                Regards, juno44

Slit button holes are quite common in tailor made straps.

The idea that Heer straps have black bottoms and SS straps is a misconception that seems to be more prevalent in Europe (especially Eastern Europe) than in North America. It was discussed a couple of months ago in the Army forum. Both SS and Heer black straps can have either field gray or black bottoms.

I assume you are referring to the white piping being canvas, but I don't see it as being canvas. It looks more like felt. I guess I just don't understand what you are saying.

A Heer panzer shoulder strap would have pink piping unless it was for a member of the Fuhrer - begleit. Unless I am wrong, they wore white waffenfarbe on an organizational basis.

I wanted to say that the shoulder boards for Army 's Fuhrer - begleit, were made similarly to the shoulder boards for the Heer panzer, were distinguished only by the white color of the waffenfarbe.

Hi, Alain! I apologize for my bad English)
For collectors from Eastern Europe, it has long been no secret that waffen-ss shoulder boards could have the reverse side of black. I have several dozen waffen-ss shoulder boards in my collection and only four boards have the reverse side of black. Such shoulder boards certainly happen, but they are quite rare.

I wanted to repeat my assumption, but more understandably.
The shoulder board we discuss, by method of manufacture (private order, side edging made of felt, and ect), is more like a shoulder board made for the army.
