SA Braunschweig Treffen badge, of course at that time the SS was still a part OF the SA.

I'm not 100% sure what makes him SD though ? He could be a member of any unit not allowed to wear the runes tab … Reichsfuhrer-SS Staff, Reichsfuhrung etc.

True, but for some reason this particuar buckle closure cap is often seen worn by SD personnel in period photographes so there is certainly a more than fair chance IMO.

Another SD Oberscharführer (fround at Weitze). Note the same type of cap
