The buckle itself is absolutely authentic. However, there are a few reasons that I feel that possibly the hardware and prong assembly may have been tampered with, or replaced.
I would ask Ric F. and a few others here to please give us their opinions on this matter.
Anyway, one can't be too careful with such a high dollar and rare piece such as these early officer's buckles. Just my thoughts!

    Thanks!

These aren't as rare as they used to be, there seems to be a lot more of them around these days.

The post prongs assembly is absolutely correct for such a buckle (36/36 marked ?)
That said few marks (red edited) left on rolled keeper could leave to a replacing job.

Hard to tell without having the buckle in hands IMO.
