Sonderkommando collar tab in Dachau insignia lot

I've spent many hours in the original camps and archives and I've never seen a sk tab.
As has been said the sonderkommando was a term related to the prisoners, not to the staff. For me it's a fantasy piece put together with original items.

William- Correct me if I am wrong, but the items you pictured in this thread, including the SK tab, came out of an auction in Willoughby, Ohio, Yes? They came with the original envelope the soldier sent them home in? I was present at the time the veteran & daughter sold them to the auction consignor. I know the SK tab was in there as well. We asked the veteran if he could remember anything regarding the tab, but he had no further info, other than that was the way he found it. So...its definitely period. Fantasy piece, no. A soldier tinkering with bits and stuck them together, perhaps. Original German, yet UNKNOWN purpose, possibly....We all know it wouldn't be the first time. Worth the time to really research, IMHO.
