This is not about a bad item being put in a book...

Honor is about doing the right thing when no one is looking.

I can only imagine what David paid for this piece but it is very commenable for PvL to step up and take care of it.I do agree w/ JMD that dealers should go the extra mile to assure their item is what its being represented as.Cheers Steve

I agree,it has nothing to do with a jacket or bad insignia..
Within a group of serious people it is all about convincing eachother or being convinced a item is original.
If a collector is wrong ,he's just wrong..
If a dealer is wrong, call the hangman..
Peter just showed he's not afraid admitting a item isn't 100%..

Thousands of people can only dream of that, they bought at dealers with amnesia..
Some dealers just do their best IMO..Some,but they exist..
        Are we 100 %..?

Peter is an honest dealer. I have bought many items from him. He is always
reliable and I know all my transactions are safe with him.

John.....since you are so dammed self righteous can I ask you if YOU think you know the same as you did seven years ago? no? Well why should it be the different for anyone else?
You should get off that hobby horse you're on. It's a dead horse you are flogging! Go write your own book and set us all straight since you know best! Hmmmmmm?

            Wade -
It was simply a question...So you're telling me that a lack of knowledge is a valid excuse for a dealer or author? Well, if you didn't know seven years ago whether the tunic/insignia was real or not, perhaps you shouldn't have included it in a reference book. Isn't that a bit 'self righteous'?

I agree that nobody is perfect, collectors and dealers alike, but the difference is the latter does this for a living and thus by implication should be held to a higher standard. That was my point, and this is not an 'attack' as it applies to all dealers and authors for that matter.

I do find it strange however, whenever there is a mistake involving you or Peter the inevitable response comes in the form an attack, not a discussion. I am not aware of any other dealers/authors that behave in this manor. So while yours or Peter's ignorance of all the facts seven years ago may seem like a valid excuse to you, as a paying consumer of militaria/books, you'll forgive me if I'm less than impressed...John

              John,

"I do find it strange however, whenever there is a mistake involving you or Peter the inevitable response comes in the form an attack, not a discussion."

Oh really? Do you think everyone is stupid and cannot see you immediately jump up to take a shot at Peter the moment his name comes up? Don't treat us like fools boy. You are not interested in discussion, you want to take another shot at someone you don't like.

"Well, if you didn't know seven years ago whether the tunic/insignia was real or not, perhaps you shouldn't have included it in a reference book. Isn't that a bit 'self righteous'?"

Ah....no. We believed firmly it was original. If we "didn't know" it wasn't included. Big difference! And hardly 'self righteous'.....go look up what that means.

" So while yours or Peter's ignorance of all the facts seven years ago may seem like a valid excuse to you, as a paying consumer of militaria/books, you'll forgive me if I'm less than impressed..."

Quite frankly John I couldn't care less if I "impress" you or not. I do not need an "excuse" with you. I (we) got up off our butts, and made some sort of contribution. What have you contributed? Well....apart from a bunch of attack, whining and inuendo......not much really. Like I said before hotshot, if you want to impress everyone YOU go write a book....since you think it's so easy to get everything right. I've got a hundred bucks right here in public that says you never do!

Peter felt right about the tunic back then and indeed so did I. So did the current owner and whoever had it in between (I have no idea if there were or how many). Peter has responded in a decent fashion to the owner's satisfaction. Matter resolved.
              Cheers, Wade K.
