    ss skull?

    Hello all.

I already posted the skull in the Heer Uniforms and Insignia Forum. But didn't get any response.

This skull is large and definitely not for the panzer collar tabs.

Is this an SS Skull or a Wehrmacht Traditionsabzeichen from the Kavallerie Unit?

I made some new photos without flash but under light. It's a nice heavy and die struck skull.

But I can't told for what it could be. It's definitive a cap badge. But is it original? I have a good feeling but it's my first skull ever.

                    Skull

IMO, it could have been worn by both SS and Army Regimental.
The 1923-1933 Wehrwolf also wore such skulls.
There were so many variations of these early, "jawless" skulls, it's hard to authenticate by comparison in many instances.
The skull is likely original IMO, although "Funia" will automatically tell you it's fake, because that's just what a Funia does
I like to see brass pins on early skulls, but many variations exist that don't look like brass, such as the Berlin Hoarde skulls.
Calling it an "SS Skull" is only accurate to a point.......no way to ever know if an Army or SS man wore it........
Very few mfgrs. ever marked the jawless skulls....one is Steinhauer & Luck (St.&L.) It's maker-marked, RZM-marked, and also "GES.GESCH."
This is important only because the St.&L. skulls WERE specifically made for the SS, as Army items were NOT RZM-marked.
Therefore, if you need a jawless skull for an early SS visor cap, I recommend to people that they search for one of those.
NOTE: St.&L. survived the war, and currently makes medals and badges for the German Army. They have quite a nice website.
