LOL, nice try, but the first one I posted is mine and it is from a known vet aquired grouping. Where do you get your knowledge from? We could argue all day, but I have the pictures to back it up. You do not.

Also, the second one I posted was from John Telesmanich, and I believe that his knowledge, experience and reputation far exceeds yours. Just sayin'

Lastly, I was not trying to say that all 4 or 5 digit numbered pins are real, but I could show several originals that are lower numbered and I could show a hundred fakes that are 6 digits. I have not seen very many fakes that are lower numbered in comparison to the overwhelming number of 6 digit fakes that I have seen. This is just simple facts from my experience. So, I was simply saying that the chances of finding an original with 6 digits are far less likely, because I have seen very few.

Also, in my earlier post, I was not trying to say that a microscope is useless or inaccurate, but rather overkill, imo, especially on the badge that started this thread.
However, we do not have to use a microscope to determine original cap skulls and such, just complex analysis and study of details and features of known originals are enough to spot the fakes, imo. Now, I have shared all of my thoughts on this subject, so have at it.

David, I too, have the exact same unmarked SS stickpin and I put it in my fake stash as well. It was given to me by an old friend of my father's, about 20+ years ago, (a few years before I even started collecting SS regalia), but it's true origin is unknown. I do feel confident that it is a repro though, and I have seen countless examples of these same pins for sale at military shows for very low prices and over several years. That's about all that I can say about those.

Spent the better part of an hour looking at the SS-Collectors stickpins and comparing them to my small photo inventory of SS-Z pins good and bad . I am going with the reputation of the 7 time poster .

I'd be willing to bet that the respectable owners of these badges are not that overly concerned.

I like the middle one, but the outer ones even more!

That is a good example and when you compare it with other two 5-# pins in question here they are not even close and I am not talking just about shape and design of the numbers.

And the pin on the auction site which is 4-# pin is ridiculous to even comment!

This thread has just gone ridiculous and I am through with it. I have far better things to do with my time. It is all yours. Enjoy!

The SS stickpin I originally posted on this thread came with these two Hoffstatter-marked badges as well, along with a few other original war relics.

John , sorry your original question got lost with people interjecting ridiculous theories and throwing fits. Let's get back to your SS-Z ... there are things I like about it , more than things I don't . I wouldn't write that one off to the rubbish pile but better pics are needed and a peek under a scope would really put it to rest as Wim mentioned earlier.

I like both Hoffstatters . Maker marked Ges Gesch are desirable badges . Well done.
