You are right Greg it is fake for 100% it looked much better on my mini-ipad screen earlier today, I di not like the weave of the HBT but some areas of the dot pattern are quite close to original but now after I compared it on my computer the print is all wrong

I saw a M44 dot cap for sale a while back as original on a dealer's website. It had the same "zig-zag" ? sort of up and down weave pattern. Is this always a sign of a reproduction?

field caps were never factory made in 44 dot. the zig-zag pattern you refer to is called herring bone & used extensively. the size of the weave can help determine original or repro.

                          Sir,

Please excuse my ignorance, I am trying to learn some about SS cloth items. I have read that the M-44 Dot caps were all made in small lots and not mass produced.

Are you saying that the herring bone weave is used extensively in fakes or that it was used extensively in original material?

Again, I'm sorry if that is a foolish question.

herringbone weave itself is original, with michael janke dot repros the hb weave was 2x as large

Thank you very much sir, I understand better now. I have since done some searching and have seen comparative examples of what you are talking about--original HB weave versus the common reproduction. The difference is quite noticeable. Thank you for helping me learn.
