SS Dachau - Guard with Cutt off Rune Tab

A stock clip from shortly after the liberation at Dachau. Not sure the guard, but he seems to know the end is near for him. They had already cut the Rune tab from his tunic. That tab would have an infamous story to tell.

Since from the remaining tab he seems to me to be an Untersturmfuhrer and on the right arm he could bear a chevron, it should not be very difficult for our experts friends of the Individual Research Forum of this WAF to identify and establish what happened to him.

Now, I will make the connection.

It would fit nicely in my cut-off collection

Wouldn't be suprised if he were murdered minutes later.
How well is the massacre documented? Were there any prosecutions?

The expression on his face is very telling...

His rank tab is for SS-Ostuf or possibly SS-Hstuf , I can't see pips on the straps though. He looks to have his collar lining in his pocket.

Who/whatever he was I don't think he'll have any need of the calendar from May onwards

I have a fire watch roster for the camp for April 1945; I'll check the names and ranks. Looks like his all set to pay the piper for his deeds.

The guards got what they deserved, you talk about massacres and prosecutions?
What do you think went on from 1933-45 at Dachau?

The questions were rhetorical. I know there were no prosecuted and hardly any investigations before Patton ordered the cover-up and I don't know if I'm so keen of your take on Lady Justice.
Read a bit on the subject and see if you still think the newly arrived Hungarians deserved to get their skulls bashed in by rifle butts. Plenty of pictorial souvenirs available if you got the stomach for it.

You are joking, right? This "soldier" was an SS officer captured in Dachau; no combat decorations, medal loops, or service ribbons and an old fighters chevron, so he was around in the "glory days".

If he wasn't shot out of hand (which we don't know he was), then justice was probably not served. Too many of these guys got away, IMO.

He's SS in a concentration camp at time of liberation - shocking he would be treated so harshly as to have his collar tab cut off.

                              Sadly he is not joking...

These guys give our forum and collecting in general a bad name.
