Absolutely ..............even the "real" ones with paperwork have fallen off the planet. Amazing what a crook with a book can do.

Doesn't appear to be any different from what has come before and what will continue to exist for collectors.

Precisely. This is why collectors are showing signs of burnout, at least some of them.

I have just made a few very good deals on SS items from person to person.
However I see no slide in prices yet on the normal websites. With the SOS
show in less than two months it will be interesting to see what happens,
Since I live in the US looking at making purchases in Euro I have to keep a eye
on the ever changing rates of exchange and also Paypal charges to convert the money.
In my opinion the US dollar is very weak. Say I make a deal for a item at 500
euro it is best to pay for it right away, As maybe when I make second payment or more the Euro could go up and I end up paying more than I had planned.
It can work the other way also.
I would think German militaria and SS in particular are the mostly widely faked'
I asked my friend who has been collecting a long time and he highlights SS items
            why?

He said that Nazi Germany was around a very short time and created such a chaos it was like come and gone in a whirlwind.

While there may be a few who quit collecting entirely because of fakes, the fakes themselves are omnipresent. Collectors have and will continue to get burned from time to time. Whether they are actually burned as much as they think they are is a topic for another thread, but my experience has seen a shift in focus by those who feel they cannot successfully navigate the hobby, as opposed to a change in hobby. People leaving the hobby altogether because they are tired of juggling the fakes are not the current driver behind lower market prices.
