May I ask how do you arrive at that rank ?

Agree, it looks like it was as some point hauptscharfuhrer rank patch ( well visible places were rank stripe was and where 2 rank stars were attached ).

At least you can see traces after two pips. Perhaps traces after the stripe is better visible IRL?

The shadow of the two pips is visible on the front side of the tab when you have it in hand.
Holes are also visible on both sides of the tab.

My main concern is not grade but authenticity.
I don't see in the replies any so is the verdict ?

I can see the shadow of the pips and a faint line from the tress.
I'd say yes original I also like the backing material

In hand, I like the fabric and the background but my knowledge is limited in this field.

I'm not sure I can see markings of the tresse ?
If you stare at it for long enough You'll believe anything I suppose
IMO is might not be necessary be SS

I was expecting someone to pull me up on what i can see,I was thinking as i was posting can i really see it or am i just susceptible to suggestion.I can see a definate line on my screen where i would expect to see tress.
As far as being ss it has the same backing as a wiking tab and other ss tabs i have owned who knows maybe it could be a different branch of service,But i do believe it to be a original period made item.
