Looks like an NCO spent a little money and upgraded his eagle to a nice bullion one. Matt

        That's what I thought ....
Its the first time I have seen one on a NCO tunic
What do you think the cost of one of these would have been at the time ?
        Regards

Interesting. I thought such upgrades were prohibited. So much for rules and regulations.

That photo of Dickmann always intrigued me I have seen a better quality version of it and the Eagle is very strange indeed. The one sample shown is also very interesting and intricate in its embroidery.

David my previous quote was in reference to
                      rules and all associated boundaries.
NCO's sometimes wished for the moment of higher
recognition and propelled themselves by relevance to
insignia, thus the wearing of officer class insignia may have
been forbidden by Heinrich Himmler, most soldiers in the
feild were more closely related to what served them at
their precise moment and not the higher establishment.
So coloured waffenfarbe on the visor was prevalent
to the end of WW2 (just an example of application to "rules")
